Description

The ocean depths will be your playground in this incredible Costa Maya SCUBA diving excursion. Here you'll be able to dive in the world's second-largest coral reef without needing a diving certification.!

The Costa Maya Discovery Dive excursion is perfect for beginners, as the ocean currents are very weak, and all of the tour guides and dive masters are PADI-certified open-water divers, meaning you'll be taught and accompanied by an expert every step of the way.

Your adventure begins outside of the Blue Kay Eco Resort, where your diving instructors will meet you at the dive center. There, you'll be outfitted with all the necessary equipment and be given instructions on how to use it before boarding the boat that'll take you to the Mesoamerican Barrier System, the second largest coral reef in the world, home of thousands of species of tropical fish, rays and sea turtles.

Your dive will last around 45 minutes and, depending on your skill level will reach a depth of up to 40 feet. Both time and depth depend on your progress, air consumption, and the safety guidance of your instructor.

Once your dive is over, you'll head back to the shore and have use of the beach club's facilities, which boast kayaks, loungers, a pool, freshwater showers, and just about anything you could need to relax after your dive. There is also an on-site restaurant, though keep in mind food isn't included in this tour.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to dive to enter the beach club?
If you're traveling with a group or a partner that can't or won't dive, they can wait for you at the beach club and enjoy all the facilities and amenities at no extra price. Food and drinks aren't included, but they can relax and enjoy the beach while they wait. For those that dive, you can come back and relax at the beach club!
Do I need to be dive-certified to dive?
No. While a diving certification will allow you to dive in different sites and at a greater depth, you don't need to be certified to enjoy this experience. Your dive master will stay with you every step of the way and will ensure the excursion is as enjoyable as it is safe.
Is this safe for people without certification?
Yes. Safety is our main concern and all of the tour guides and dive masters are PADI certified. The equipment you'll use is top-of-the-line and well-maintained, and it'll be checked again before you use it to ensure your dive is as safe as can be. Your divemaster will select your dive site based on weather conditions and your own skills as a diver. If you're not diving certified, your dive master will take you to one of the safest, yet still enjoyable, diving sites and will guide you the entire time. If you're certified, your dive master will still stay by your side, but you'll be able to enjoy a more challenging dive.
How can I get to the meeting point?
The meeting point, Blue Kay Eco Resort, is a short 6-8 minute drive distance from Costa Maya's cruise port. You can catch a taxi just outside the port ($8 USD roughly), or you can walk alongside the coast for around ~2km.
